Teaching Style
What is my teaching philosophy?
In general, I will try to NOT lecture as much as possible, with the understanding that having a conversation in which both tutor and student are active participants is preferable to a unidirectional flow of information. As much as is possible, I will attempt to steer sessions into a conversation in which both tutor and student ask questions and solve exercises of increasing complexity, with a lot of input and feedback from me at the start of the session and hopefully very little by the end.
Avoiding this “lecture trap” requires that the student comes with a certain amount of understanding from the get-go, which means that we shall try to schedule sessions on a topic generally after the student’s had enough time to get familiarized with it, usually a few days after that lecture.
What can you expect during each session?
Sessions will generally be 60 minutes in length as any longer amount generally is detrimental to concentration and understanding. After each session I can provide practice exercises and you will receive e-mail or in-person feedback after completion.
Sessions will take place through Zoom and we’ll be using OneNote or a similar note-taking platform as well. It is encouraged that you have a drawing tablet of your own, but it is not necessary. PDFs of the meeting notes will be sent to you by e-mail at the end of the session.
